WORK PERMIT
You must enter Canada for a temporary purpose only. A work permit is valid only for a specified job and length of time. A work permit may be issued based on labour market opinion (HRSDC confirmation) or may be issued on the basis of other requirements. An HRSDC confirmation is the opinion provided by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) which enables immigration officers to determine whether the employment of the foreign worker is likely to have a positive or negative impact on the labour market in Canada.
The general rule is that a foreign national must apply outside Canada for their work permit. However, there are situations where a work permit may be obtained at the port of entry or within Canada, respectively.
Work without a permit
There are certain types of work which a foreign national is authorized to do without having to obtain a work permit. Call us for more information on this.
Post-graduation employment
Students may accept education-related employment for a maximum period of one year following successful completion of their studies, without the need for HRSDC confirmation.
The student must have graduated from a program at a post-secondary institution (as defined in the note above). Notification from the academic institution should be provided that the student has completed all of the requirements for their degree or diploma. As evidence of notification, the applicant may provide a copy of the final transcript (indicating marks or grades) and/or a letter from the institution. There are several other conditions which the applicant must adhere, you may consult us for further information.
