TEMPORARY RESIDENT STATUS
If you are a temporary resident (visitor, worker or student) who are already in Canada, you can extend your stay, change conditions of your stay, change your class (visitor, worker, student) or correct problems in you status.
VISITOR
If your visitor status is still valid, you can apply for an extension of your stay as a Temporary Resident at least 30 days before the expiry date. If there is no stamp, or stamp without a handwritten date or document in your passport, your visitor status will expire six months from the day you arrived in Canada.
WORKER
If you wish to extend your work permit or change employer, you must apply for extension or changing the conditions on your work permit.
Conditions on your work permit may include one or more of the following:
- the type of employment in which you may work;
- the employer for whom you may work;
- where you my work;
- how long you may continue to work.
STUDENT
If you are currently studying in Canada and wish to change institutions at the same level, or change levels from college to university, you must apply to change conditions on your study permit before you moving to another institution. Conditions on your study permit may include one or more of the following:
- the type of studies or course you may take;
- the educational institution you may attend;
- the location of your studies;
- the time and period of your studies;
- the prohibition of engaging employment;
- the duration of your stay in Canada.
